Biography

Painter & mixed media artist, Smith studied at Canterbury College of Art, 1978-80 and at the Royal College of Art, 1983-86. In 1986 he won a Barclays Young Artist Award and a John Minton Award at the Royal College. Subsequently Smith won several other awards scholarships and residencies in Venice, Berlin, New York, and elsewhere. His many mixed shows included a number in London: Serpentine Gallery, 1987; Nigel Greenwood Gallery, 1988; Anderson O’Day, 1990. His one-man exhibitions in London included Royal College of Art, 1988, Maak Gallery, 1993 and Purdy Hicks Gallery, 2000. The British Council, Royal College of Art, Barclays Bank plc, Unilever plc and other corporate collections hold Smith’s work.
